Bamboo can offer homeowners the same attractive
qualities as wood floors. It comes in a variety
of grain styles and color options, and can be refinished
in the same way hardwood can be.
But one of the best things about bamboo is
its eco-friendliness. Technically classified as a
grass, not a wood, bamboo is a natural product that
is environmentally sound. Bamboo can grow as tall
and as thick as trees, but can fully regenerate in
5 years (that’s 8 times faster than wood) making
it infinitely more sustainable than wood. Not only
does it mature quickly, but the plants also spread
rapidly. Every year the parent bamboo plant develops
new stems, so the stems can be harvested after 5
years in a mature plantation without decreasing the
size of the forest.
Another style of bamboo flooring available
is strand/woven bamboo. In this process, the bamboo
strands are crushed lengthwise and are then pressed
at extremely high pressure to produce the planks.
These boards are manufactured to achieve
greater strength and stability, and are even
suitable for use in light commercial applications.
Harvesting bamboo is safe for both forests
and soil, so you can feel good about choosing bamboo.

Flooring trends in recent years have
more people looking at wood and the options available
to them with hard woods. Wood floors are timeless
and have an appeal for those who love the traditional
look or who want to avoid allergens often found in
carpeted floors. Warmer and more durable than tile,
wood floors have made a strong comeback into homes
and businesses around the world.
In selecting Bamboo flooring for
a home or office, the environment is not always the
first consideration. In fact, it is usually far down
on the list of features. Bamboo flooring is
the perfect choice for people wanting an elegant,
rich wood floor, without the actual wood. Bamboo
is a natural product, actually classified as a grass,
but it has all the warmth and beauty of hard woods,
even more durability from some varieties, and a timeless
look that will enhance any décor.
Bamboo can grow to be as tall and thick as trees but has the ability to regenerate
itself in about five years. It’s harvesting is safe for both forests and
soils. You can feel good about choosing bamboo.
An often-overlooked alternative to hard wood is the bamboo floor.
Bamboo is a beautiful and even exotic alternative to other hard woods that is
actually more durable, often more affordable, and entirely more environmentally
friendly.
Bamboo offers consumers the same attractive options as many other wood floors.
Choices in grain style and finishing colors will complement any décor.
Caring for your flooring is as easy as keeping it clean. Sometimes spot or total
refinishing will be necessary over time and the same methods and products used
on hard woods can be applied to bamboo. Even changing the color of a bamboo floor
is possible through sanding and refinishing. (mybambooflooring.com)
How are bamboo floors manufactured?
Fresh & mature bamboo clumps are split and flattened
lengthwise into strips of equal dimensions. These
are processed & kiln dried before being pressed
against each other and glued under high pressure
to form boards (raw planks).
Strand woven boards are manufactured to achieve greater
strength and stability. The bamboo clump is crushed
lengthwise and the strands are pressed & glued
at extreme high pressure to produce boards (raw planks).
The raw planks are then milled to form tongue & groove
on the edges. These are then surface coated, packed & shipped.
How do bamboo floors compare with other hardwood
floors?
Both Horizontal & Vertical bamboo flooring is
harder than the most popular hardwood - Oak.
Strand Woven bamboo flooring is harder than the most
expensive hardwood - Brazilian Walnut.
Also, bamboo flooring is less expensive than hardwood.
Is bamboo environmentally friendly?
Absolutely. Bamboo is specially cultivated and harvested,
without damaging the ecological system of renewal.
Every year the parent bamboo plant develops new stems,
so the stems can be harvested after 6 years in a
mature plantation without decreasing the size of
the forest.
A uniquely environmentally responsible flooring
Bamboo is a truly sustainable harvested grass that
regenerates at least 8 times faster than hardwood.
Not only does bamboo mature rapidly but harvesting
does not kill the plant. We use only fully mature bamboo
selected for superior strength and maximum hardness. |
